This album of writing songs, written and performed by Jonny Williams for Adventures in Writing Camp’s 2013 sessions, contains:
1) Start Off With a Bang (Onomatopoeia): This camp favorite, which features the hook “Got to have a hook for your reader!” is written to teach the skill of writing introductions through Onomatopoeia and other introductory hooks.
2) Words Paint a Picture: Teaches elaboration and the use of “who, what, where, why, when, how” to draw the reader into a scene by “painting them a picture with your words.”
3) Easy as P.I.E.: This song uses the acronym “PIE” to teach the concept of “Author’s Purpose.” (Authors write with three literary goals: Persuade, Inform, and/or Entertain = PIE)
4) Selling My Bedroom: Based on the descriptive writing exercise where campers bring in a photo of their bedroom to camp. Each camper then uses a wide range of positive adjectives to describe the contents of his/her bedroom as though it were featured in a real estate listing.
5) Small Moments: (Life is full of small moments, we must stop to take notice…) The song small moments teaches the importance of using the sensory details of sight, smell, taste, hearing, and feel to describe a scene, character, or action in a story.
6) Adventures in Writing: (Chorus “You (you!) won’t believe (won’t believe!) where writing will take you!”) An energetic song about a child’s writing pencil leading their imagination on a wondrous journey!
